Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra to play movie classics

    Pan Asia Orchestra will play "My Heart Will Go On" (Theme from "Titanic"), "Beauty and the Beast Highlight", "Aladdin Medley" and "More" (Theme from "Mondo Cane") at concerts next month.

     Featuring pianist Wang Li, the three scheduled concerts will also bring beautiful piano classics including Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat, Op.73 (Emperor)", Mozart's "Piano Concerto No. 21 in C, K467, 2nd Movement" and Rachmaninov's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, 18th Variation".

     Canadian pianist Wang Li has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, North America and Asia. He had musical training from his father, Wang Yanqiao, a composer in China, Bao Hueiqiao, Ying Shizhen and Dan Shao at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music, renowned pedagogues Hiroko Edo, Kiyoshi Arai and Huang Ya in Japan, Brigitte Engerer and Gabriel Tacchino at the Conservatoire Nationale Superieure de Musique in Paris and recently James Anagnoson of The Royal Conservatory of Music's Glenn Gould School.

     Wang won a Gold Medal in a Canadian Chopin Piano Competition, Second Prize and Best Concerto Prize in the esteemed AXA Dublin International Piano Competition and Third Prize in the 43rd Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona.

     Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra has been promoting music among the general public especially the young generation in Hong Kong over the past 30 years. The orchestra has played with a number of internationally famous conductors and soloists. By using the idioms of popular music and organising concert talks, it has successfully introduced serious music and Chinese orchestral music and brought an awareness of the indigenous culture to the people.

     Presented by Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Pan Asia Orchestra Concert" will be staged at 8pm, March 23 (Friday) at Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre; March 24 (Saturday) at Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall and 3pm on March 25 (Sunday) at Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre. Ticket prices, ranged from $60 to $100, are now available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients (limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
