ETWB expresses concern for West Rail incident
*********************************************

"We are very concerned about the West Rail incident which occurred this morning (February 14)," a spokesman for the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau said.

The Hong Kong Railway Inspectorate (HKRI) has arrived at the scene immediately to look into the incident. The HKRI is investigating the cause of the incident, including whether the power supply equipment of the incident train or other facilities inside the tunnel are involved.

To ensure the safety of the passengers, the HKRI will ascertain that the incident was not caused by failure of equipment inside the tunnel before approving the resumption of West Rail service at Tai Lam Tunnel section.

The HKRI have also requested the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) to submit the incident cause report soonest possible and to carry out a thorough fleet check on the power supply equipment of the trains of the same model.

Besides, the Government has also requested the KCRC to provide the affected passengers with necessary emergency transportation arrangements during the service disruption.
