Running from tomorrow (February 14) until May 14 at the Hong Kong Museum of History, the "Ancient Chinese Civilisation -- Treasures of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties from Henan Province" exhibition features more than 100 pieces of precious cultural relics of these three dynasties excavated from Henan province in the Central Plains, revealing various aspects, such as rites and music, warfare, clothing, food, housing and transportation of this important period. Pictured are bronze carriage bells made in the Western Zhou dynasty (1046 - 771 BC). These horse carriage bells have an elliptical cavity on the top of the body, a small hole in the centre and eight triangular perforations distributed evenly around it. The top of the body is connected to a rectangular foundation by a short stem. Both sides of the foundation have a hole and are decorated with slender vertical bands and a design of four raised diamond shapes. |
