Running from tomorrow (February 14) until May 14 at the Hong Kong Museum of History, the "Ancient Chinese Civilisation -- Treasures of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties from Henan Province" exhibition features more than 100 pieces of precious cultural relics of these three dynasties excavated from Henan province in the Central Plains, revealing various aspects, such as rites and music, warfare, clothing, food, housing and transportation of this important period. Pictured is a bronze "jia" wine vessel with "ruding" pattern which is made in the Xia dynasty (2070-1600BC). This bronze "jia", a wine container and warmer, has an unsophisticated shape, with simple but irregular patterns. The shape and form as well as the decorations on the body are similar to that of the pottery "jia" and bronze "jue" wine vessels of the Erlitou period. The bronze "jia' of the Erlitou culture was one of the earliest bronze ritual vessels in China.
