The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Joseph WP Wong, will leave tonight (February 11) for Belgium and Germany on an official visit.
In Brussels, Mr Wong will on Monday (February 12) meet Commissioner for Trade of the European Commission, Mr Peter Mandelson, to exchange views on the Doha Round as well as trade issues between Hong Kong and the European Union. He will also meet Belgian Vice-Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Mr Didier Reynders, to promote Hong Kong's trade and investment opportunities for Belgium business and to exchange views on bilateral trade issues.
He will bring greetings to some 400 guests, including ambassadors, local and European Commission officials and business leaders, at a Chinese New Year reception organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels.
On Tuesday (February 13), Mr Wong will meet the German Federal Minister for Economy and Technology, Mr Michael Glos, in Berlin where Hong Kong will set up an Economic and Trade Office later this year.
To show his support to the Hong Kong film industry, he will be the guest of honour at the Hong Kong Reception of the Berlin International Film Festival which is running from February 8 to 18.
Mr Wong will also visit the European Film Market (EFM) where a number of Hong Kong film companies are presenting themselves to the international film world.
Integrated into the Berlin International Film Festival, EFM is one of the most important annual events and a key meeting place for representatives of the international film industry. A total of 259 exhibitors from 46 countries are represented in EFM this year.
Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong on Thursday (February 15).
