Classification for import and export declaration amended
********************************************************

Import and export declarations for shipments from today (February 9), 2007 must be completed by importers and exporters in accordance with an amended classification made to the current edition of the Hong Kong Imports and Exports Classification List (Harmonised System).

A spokesman for the Customs and Excise Department said the amendment was published in the Gazette today and takes immediate effect.

It affects two commodity items related to gold bars. With the adoption of more appropriate sub-classifications and commodities descriptions, the amendment brings the classification in line with the Government's initiative in giving effect to the exemption of declaration charges for the imports, exports and re-exports of gold bars.

The amended classification list is available free
