More civil celebrants of marriages appointed
********************************************

The Immigration Department today (February 9) announced the appointment of another 33 civil celebrants of marriages.

This brings the number to 1,130 since the first batch of civil celebrants was appointed on April 21, 2006.

A department spokesman said the Civil Celebrants of Marriages Scheme was well received by the public because the lifting of restrictions on time and place of marriage solemnisation meant for more choices with greater flexibility and convenience in making arrangements for weddings. To the end of January, 2007, about 11,500 couples had given their marriage notice through civil celebrants and 11,300 couples had their marriage celebrated by civil celebrants.  Given the popularity of the scheme, it is attracting more and more couples to have their marriages celebrated by civil celebrants.

Couples can get the "Information Leaflet for the Marrying Parties" which provides the necessary steps and points to note in selection of civil celebrants to celebrate marriages and view the updated list of civil celebrants at the Immigration Department website at http://www.immd.gov.hk.  The leaflets are also available at the Information and Liaison Section of the Immigration Department, 2nd Floor, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai (Tel. No. 2824 6111) and at various marriage registries.
