The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority today (February 7) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $27,000 on behalf of an employee who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.
Imperial Industry Company Limited, did not appear at the hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $27,047.06, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable. The Adjudicator also ordered the defendant to pay the MPFA $5,000 being financial penalty imposed by the MPFA for failure to make MPF contributions for employees.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payment of $136 as costs in respect of the claim.
