MIC to organise Maritime Seminar
********************************

The "Check Before Fixing" seminar, an international maritime event jointly organised by the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council and the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) for the first time in Hong Kong, will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre starting tomorrow (February 8).

The two-day seminar will help enrich the international shipping knowledge of maritime professionals and enhance the standard and competitiveness of Hong Kong's maritime services. It will also provide a forum for the maritime industry players from different parts of the world to exchange views on the development of this international trade.

"We are pleased to jointly host this international event in Hong Kong with BIMCO which is a champion of maritime training and cradle to many successful professionals in the industry. This strengthens Hong Kong's status as an international maritime centre," a Maritime Industry Council spokesman said.

Topics to be covered range from the latest developments in shipping in general to issues of specific interest. They include types of charter parties; chartering negotiations and operation; laytime and demurrage;  bills of lading; and sale and purchase. Speakers are all experts who have more than 30 years of experience in the shipping industry.

More than 180 delegates from local, overseas and Mainland shipping companies, shipowners and relevant industry players will participate in the seminar.
