Basic Law Drama Competition finals tomorrow
*******************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

Six teams will tomorrow (February 8) compete in the final round of the Basic Law Drama Competition jointly organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB).

The final and award presentation of the drama competition will be held at 7pm tomorrow at Kwai Tsing Theatre. The competition had two categories - Secondary School and Tertiary Education and Open. The preliminary round of competition was held on January 21, 2007. The six teams selected for the final will compete for the winner, the first and second runners-up of each category as well as the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Play and Best Stage Effect awards.

The drama competition is co-organised with the Constitutional Affairs Bureau, Department of Justice and the Education and Manpower Bureau; supported by Radio Television Hong Kong and assisted by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre as the technical consultant.

Since 2004, the CPCE and HAB have been organising annual events to promote the Basic Law. For 2006-07, a drama competition has been held to promote the Basic Law in a livelier manner so participants can "Learn the Basic Law, Know your Rights and Duties".

After a launch ceremony last October, a roving exhibition has been held to publicise the Basic Law. Three workshops have also been organised, in which members of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee, Ms Maria Tam, Mr Dick Wong and Mr Fung Man-wai shared their views of the Basic Law with participants.

For the final and award presentation, CPCE Chairman Dr Pang King-chee; Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Mrs Carrie Lam; Hong Kong Deputy to the National People's Congress Ms Maria Tam; Artistic Director of Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Mr Fredric Mao; and Event Ambassador Ms Louisa So will be the officiating guests. Artistes Stephanie Cheng and Dexter Young will be performing guests. A special guest will be Ms Liza Wang.

Details of the competition are available at www.basiclawdrama.hk.
