Exhibition on career and education opportunities in the maritime industry
********************************************************

Young people and job-seekers wishing to explore career and education opportunities in Hong Kong's maritime service industry have been invited to visit the integrated booth of the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council and the Marine Department at the Education and Careers Expo 2007 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from tomorrow to Sunday (February 1 to 4).

Presented by the Maritime Industry Council and Marine Department to promote the professional image of the maritime industry, the  booth features various service sectors of the maritime cluster in Hong Kong, including ship finance, ship brokering, ship management, marine insurance, maritime arbitration and maritime law, as well as the job information on the department.

The booth also highlights the career opportunities and prospects of the maritime industry as well as the various maritime-related education programmes offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Vocational Training Council's Maritime Services Training Centre, and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Training (Tsing Yi), and introduces the Sea-going Training Incentive Scheme for a career onboard ocean-going vessels.

A newly produced TV sponsorship programme on the maritime cluster will also be on show at the booth throughout the exhibition period. The first episode of the programme was broadcast last Saturday, while the second one is scheduled to be on air on ATV-Home Channel at 10pm on Saturday (February 3).

Other attraction  at the booth is a 'Full Mission Ship Simulator', which provides youngsters with a better understanding of a maritime career.  Visitors can experience the realistic feel and touch on a ship bridge navigational equipment, as well as the excitement of navigating through Hong Kong waters in simulated scenarios.

In addition to the exhibition, a sea-going career seminar will be held on Friday afternoon (February 2). A representative from the Maritime Professional Promotion Federation will give information on the current job situation and prospects of the seafaring career. Sea-going cadets will also share their on-board experience with the participants.

The Education and Careers Expo 2007 is jointly organised by the Labour Department and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council at Hall 5, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Harbour Road, Hong Kong from February 1 to 4. Admission is free.
