Appointments to Advisory Committee on the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged

    The Government announced today (January 26) the appointment of two new non-official members to the Advisory Committee on the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged. They are Mr Leung Wing-yu and Mr Tai Yiu-wah, Robert.

     Mr Leung is the chief executive - social service of Yuen Yuen Institute. He serves on several committees of the Social Welfare Department, including the Sub-Committee of the Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service.
 
     Mr Tai is the director of a real estate and construction company and is the vice-president of Yuen Long Merchants Association. He is also serving on a number of district-related committees in Yuen Long, such as the District Fight Crime Committee and the District New Arrivals Service Co-ordinating Committee.

     Meanwhile, 10 incumbent non-official members have been re-appointed. They are: Ms Chan Kit-wing, Ellen; the Reverend Dorothy Lau; Mrs Lee Lau Chu-lai, Julie; Mr Ma Siu-leung; Professor Mok Bong-ho; Ms Tao Chee-ying, Theresa; Dr Wong Chi-ho, Jimmy; Mr Yang Chuen-liang, Charles; Mr Yeung Po-kwan; and Dr Yue Kwok-to.

     All the appointments are for a term of two years with effect from February 1 this year.

     The Advisory Committee, chaired by the Director of Social Welfare, is to examine applications for the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged and all matters relating to the fund's operation.

     The $200-million fund was established in December 2004 to promote the development of a tripartite social partnership between the Government, the business community and the welfare sector in helping the disadvantaged. Applications from non-governmental welfare organisations are invited.
