SCIT to visit Davos and London

    The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Joseph W P Wong, will leave Hong Kong this evening (January 24) for a visit to Davos and London.

     In Davos, Switzerland Mr Wong will join the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Mr Pascal Lamy, and more than 20 trade ministers to participate in an informal ministerial meeting on the Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations.

     Mr Wong and his ministerial counterparts are expected to discuss the way forward and how to advance the Doha Round of negotiations towards a successful conclusion.

     In London, Mr Wong will meet the UK Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Mr Alistair Darling, to exchange views on matters of common interest and to enhance Hong Kong's trade relations with the UK.

     He will also meet the UK Minister for Creative Industries and Tourism, Mr Shaun Woodward, and Chairman of the UK Film Council, Mr Stewart Till, to exchange views and share experiences on government's support for the creative industries and in particular the film industry.

     Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong on January 31.
