Commission on Poverty reaffirms commitment to encourage work
************************************************************

The Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, chaired the 13th meeting of the Commission on Poverty (the Commission) this afternoon (January 23).

The commission further deliberated on the proposed features of the pilot Transport Support Scheme to address the relative lack of job opportunities in remote areas and to encourage work. There was strong consensus among commission members to provide transport support to help the needy living in remote areas to find work and to stay in employment.

The commission also examined the recommendations from the Task Force on Children and Youth to strengthen support for children and families, including the implementation of the Comprehensive Child Development Service, which strengthened early identification of families at risk. The meeting also noted the wide community support for the Government to set aside extra resources to support child development projects targeting disadvantaged children.

Members also supported the direction and proposed measures to facilitate the development of social enterprises.

The agenda and papers of the meeting are available at the commission's website: www.cop.gov.hk.
