Entries invited for Hong Kong Flower Show plant exhibit competition (with photo)

    The Hong Kong Flower Show 2007, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be held in Victoria Park from March 16 to 25.

     The show is inviting participants to take part in its plant exhibit competition of which winning entries will be on display for public enjoyment. Applications are free of charge and will be open until February 9.

     The Hong Kong Flower Show is a major event of the department to promote horticulture and the awareness of greening. Every year, it provides an opportunity for hundreds of thousands of local citizens and horticulture lovers all over the world to appreciate the beauty of flowers and share their experiences in the cultivation of flowers.

     Featuring Geranium as its theme flower and the theme "Spring Blossoms for Celebration", the event will showcase this exquisite flower and a rich profusion of potted plants, beautiful floral arrangements and landscape displays by organisations from local, the Mainland and overseas. Flowers and other horticultural products will be on sale at the commercial stalls. A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities will also be held for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages.

     The plant exhibit competition, comprising Open and School Categories, is divided into 15 sections and 91 classes. The sections include orchid, Chinese cymbidium, potted plant, cactus and succulent, foliage and carnivorous plant, African violet, bonsai type plant, Western style and Oriental manner floral arrangements, floral art by school children, and primary and secondary school potted plant growing/nursing, school garden plot competition, etc.

     Section winners will be awarded trophies. The Hong Kong Flower Show Cups will be awarded to the best exhibits of the Open Section and School Section. A prize presentation ceremony will be held during the show at Victoria Park.

     Completed entry forms should be sent to the Secretariat, Show Committee of Hong Kong Flower Show 2007, 11/F Leisure and Cultural Services Headquarters, 1-3 Pai Tau Street, Sha Tin; or submitted by fax (2691 7264) on or before February 9.
