Financial Secretary on duty visit to Beijing

    The Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, will leave Hong Kong next Tuesday morning (January 16) for a duty visit to Beijing.  

     During his visit, Mr Tang will call on the People's Bank of China to discuss matters of mutual interest including the newly approved further expansion of renminbi business in Hong Kong and follow-up on issues raised by the Chief Executive during his earlier duty visit to Beijing.  Mr Tang will also attend the signing ceremony of a supplementary memorandum of co-operation between the People's Bank of China and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

     The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Mr Joseph Yam, and the Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services), Mr Kevin Ho, will accompany Mr Tang to Beijing.

     During Mr Tang's absence from Hong Kong, Secretary for Economic Development and Labour Mr Stephen Ip will double up as Financial Secretary.  Mr Tang will return to Hong Kong next Wednesday (January 17).
