Extension of appointments to Consultative Committee and its Advisory Groups on the Core Arts and Cultural Facilities of the West Kowloon Cultural District
************************************************************

The Government announced today (December 24) that the Chief Executive has extended the appointment of members of the Consultative Committee on the Core Arts and Cultural Facilities of the West Kowloon Cultural District (the Consultative Committee) and its three Advisory Groups for a period of six months up to the end of June 2007.

The Chief Secretary for Administration and Chairman of the Consultative Committee, Mr Rafael Hui, said: "Since the establishment of the Consultative Committee and its three Advisory Groups in April, there has been considerable progress in re-examining and re-confirming the core arts and cultural facilities to be provided in the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD). The Performing Arts and Tourism Advisory Group (PATAG) and the Museums Advisory Group (MAG) have submitted their recommendations earlier to the Consultative Committee and the Financial Matters Advisory Group (FMAG) is now assessing the financial implications of these recommendations with a view to submitting its report to the Consultative Committee in early 2007."

"The latest progress indicates that there is a need to extend the appointments so as to enable the Consultative Committee and its Advisory Groups to complete their deliberations and fully accomplish their tasks."

"After re-examining the core arts and cultural facilities in the WKCD with an assessment of their financial implications, the Consultative Committee shall be in a position to advise the Government how the project should be taken forward," Mr Hui said.

The latest membership lists of the Consultative Committee and its three Advisory Groups are at the Annex attached.
