Tung Wah Eastern Hospital Norovirus cases update

    In relation to a male geriatric ward in Tung Wah Eastern Hospital (TWEH) in which there were seven patients and five staff members with vomiting, diarrhoea and fever symptoms, a hospital spokesperson has the following update today (December 22):

     There are two more staff members and one more patient (aged 76) presenting with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms.  All patients are being treated under isolation and they are in stable condition.  TWEH has arranged appropriate tests for the concerned patients.  Five of them are positive to Norovirus while other results are pending.  Two staff members are now on sick leave while the others have recovered.

     Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended.  Infection control measures have also been stepped up.  All patients and staff of the ward are under close surveillance.

     TWEH Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
