Correctional officers today (December 22) conducted a special search operation in Stanley Prison as part of the Correctional Services Department's security measures in individual institutions.

In the operation, unauthorised articles including self-made gambling paraphernalia, food provisions and other articles were seized from the prison workshops.

Among them, 30 suspected soccer betting notes were found. The total amount of betting involved was estimated to be 8,686 packs of cigarettes.
After investigation, appropriate actions would be taken against any prisoners who breached prison discipline.

The operation, which started at 10am and ended at noon, was carried out smoothly.

A total of 116 correctional officers from Stanley Prison and Correctional Services Department Staff Training Institute were deployed in the operation. They were led by the Chief Superintendent of Stanley Prison.

Commenting on the operation, a department spokesperson said: "Staff members will spare no efforts in detecting and clamping down any illicit activities inside penal institutions. Three similar operations were also mounted in other institutions this year.

"We will continue our close monitoring of prisoners' activities," the spokesperson said.
