*****************************************

A spokesperson of Tung Wah Eastern Hospital made the following announcement today (December 20):

Seven patients (aged 76 to 87) and five staff members of a male geriatric ward have presented with vomiting, diarrhoea and fever symptoms since December 5.  The patients are being treated under isolation and they are in stable condition. The hospital has arranged appropriate tests for the concerned patients.  Three of them are positive to Norovirus while other results are pending.  One staff member is now on sick leave while the others have recovered.

Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended.  Infection control measures have also been stepped up.  All patients and staff of the ward are under close surveillance.

The hospital's Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
