Mainland marine fish supply to resume tomorrow
**********************************************

A spokesman for the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau said today (December 12) that the Bureau was informed by the Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that the supply of Mainland marine fish to Hong Kong would resume tomorrow.

"Meanwhile, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) would make every effort to combat fish products coming to Hong Kong from improper channels.

"The FEHD and the Customs and Excise Department had, after days of planning, stepped up inspections at Lau Fau Shan and intercepted early this morning a Mainland fish boat loaded with marine fish and crabs.  Follow-up investigations indicated that the marine products came with manifests.

"The FEHD, together with the Customs and the Police, would continue to step up surveillance at Lau Fau Shan.  Fish products from dubious sources will be marked and sealed upon interception," the spokesman said.
