Members appointed to Venue Partnership Committee and Art Form Panels
*********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department today (December 12) announced the appointment of members to the newly formed Committee on Venue Partnership and six Art Form Panels. The appointments are made according to the Committee on Performing Arts Recommendation Report (I) and are for a two-year term to October 31, 2008.

The Venue Partnership Committee will be formed to advise the department on the implementation of the Venue Partnership Scheme at the department's performing arts venues. The scheme aims to foster a partnership between the venues and arts groups/organisations to help develop venue-based arts promotion strategies, broaden the audience base, facilitate sponsorship, and encourage community involvement in arts development.

The work of the committee will include the formulation of a detailed plan for the scheme with reference to the parameters set out in the Recommendation Report and the responses to the Expression of Interest exercise which was launched to carry out assessment and selection of proposals, evaluation and monitoring of the performance of arts groups/organisations during the partnership term, and review processes.

The Art Form Panels will be tasked with advising the department on the strategies of performing arts programmes of the respective art forms, formulating structured and sustainable strategies in identifying and supporting the development of local budding and small-scale performing arts groups, and giving expert advice on choice of programmes. The chairman and one representative from each panel will form the Programme and Development Committee to consider long-term programme presentation strategies such as venue-based programming, resource allocation and programme plans.
