Legco meeting

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council will hold a meeting this Wednesday (December 13) at 11am in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Building. During the meeting, Members will debate a motion on release of Ching Cheong.
 
     The motion, to be proposed by Hon James To, says: "That this Council urges the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and other persons to make every effort to assist in bringing about the early release of Ching Cheong."

     Hon Howard Young will move an amendment to Hon James To's motion.

     On government motion, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury will move a resolution under the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance to seek the Council's approval to amend Schedule 1 to the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance so as to extend the existing concessionary duty rate for ultra low sulphur diesel to December 31, 2008.

     On bill, the Race Discrimination Bill will be introduced into the Council for First and Second Readings. Debate on the Bill will be adjourned.

     During the meeting, Members will also ask the Administration 20 questions on various policy areas, six of which require oral replies.

     Members of the public are welcome to observe the proceedings of the meeting from the public galleries of the Legislative Council Chamber. They may reserve seats by calling 2869 9399 during office hours. Seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
