Release of Secondary School Profiles 2006-2007
**********************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation:

The Committee on Home-School Co-operation (CHSC) today (December 11) uploaded the cyber version (in Chinese and English) of the Secondary School Profiles 2006-2007. The printed version (in Chinese) will be delivered to primary schools from today onwards to parents of primary six pupils.

The profile, which is issued by CHSC, aims to provide parents with basic information of secondary schools of the respective school nets (including four types of schools viz government, aided, Caput and Direct Subsidy Scheme schools) to facilitate parents' choice of secondary schools. It also outlines important points to note when making school choice.

The profile covers basic information such as school characteristics, facilities, class structure, extra-curricular activities and fees, etc. of more than 400 local secondary schools. The school information in the Profile was mainly provided by schools as at September 2006.

Starting from this Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) cycle, parents' choices of schools will be further increased. At the Discretionary Places (DP) stage, the maximum DP quota for each secondary school has increased to 30%, and parents may apply to any two secondary schools participating in the SSPA System, irrespective of school nets.

The Profile first went cyber in 2003 to enable schools to update their information on the web direct whenever necessary. During the period from December, 2005, to now, the number of page views of the web profile is more than 20 million.

People are welcome to visit the homepage of the CHSC at http://embhsc.hkedcity.net/ or the direct link to the Profile provided by the Hong Kong Education City at http://embhsc.hkedcity.net/secondary/ for the cyber version of the Profile. Copies of the printed version of the Profile will be available at District Offices, public libraries, Regional Education Offices of the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) as well as the Central Resources Centre of EMB starting from December 16.

Each primary school has been provided with two full sets of the printed version of the profile for parents' reference on schools of other districts.

For enquiries about the profile, please call EMB's Regional Education Offices (Hong Kong: 2863 4646; Kowloon: 3698 4108; New Territories East: 2639 4876; and New Territories West: 2437 7272) or the CHSC Secretariat (3698 4379 or 3698 4376).
