Information on candidates available in polling stations for reference by voters
************************************************************

In response to media enquiries on the arrangement for providing information about candidates by polling stations, a spokesman of the Registration and Electoral Office ("REO") said:

"When sending poll cards to voters, REO also provided them with the introduction to candidates leaflet of the relevant subsectors.  The introductory leaflets contain the photographs and platforms provided by the candidates.

Furthermore, information about candidates of various subsectors is displayed in polling stations.  The introductory leaflets are also available in the polling stations, and voters may ask for a copy for reference.  The leaflets contain the photographs and platforms provided by the candidates.

As regards ballot papers, they contain the numbers and the Chinese and English names of all candidates.  Given the large number of candidates and the limitation on the sizes of ballot papers, it is not practical to print the photographs of candidates and the emblems of their sponsoring bodies on the ballot papers.  We have not undertaken to print the photographs of candidates and the emblems of their sponsoring bodies on the ballot papers.

At the meeting of the Legislative Council's Panel on Constitutional Affairs held on May 15, 2006, the panel and the public were briefed on the relevant arrangements."
