Queen Elizabeth Hospital Norovirus cases update

    Regarding a medical ward in Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in which there were patients contracted with Norovirus, the hospital announced the following update today (December 7):

     One more male patient, 51, and one staff member in the same ward had presented with diarrhoea and vomiting symptom.  The patient is being treated under isolation and his condition is stable.  The staff member is currently on sick leave.  Since December 1, there have been four patients and one staff member present with the symptoms.  The test results of three patients were positive to Norovirus.   The remaining laboratory test results are pending.

     Admission to this ward has been suspended while visiting arrangement remains normal. Infection control measures have been stepped up in the concerned ward. All patients are under close surveillance.

     QEH Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
