Paper Folding Fun Design Competition
************************************

Another territory-wide children's stamps design competition is to be held, with the support from the Education and Manpower Bureau as the co-organiser for this year's competition, Hongkong Post announced today (November 30).

Similar competitions have drawn great interest from children who have been delighted to unveil their creativity and innovation in stamps design.  Participants are encouraged to stretch their imagination through paper folding and demonstrate their creative talent in art.  Formerly, the competition was open only to primary school students.  This time, the Secondary School Division and the Family Division will be introduced.  The Primary School Division theme is Plants, for the Secondary School Division it is Animals/Marine Life/Insects/Birds, and for the Family Division it is Festive Activity/Display.

The Assistant Postmaster General (Business Development), Mr Dan Choi said most people folded different living creatures in their childhood, especially cranes.  "Commonly, the designs are being passed from parents to children so it's a good means to foster communication between parents and children," Mr Choi said.  "Through participating in the competition, participants may also experience great excitement and satisfaction of being the stamp designers and nourishing youngsters' interests in stamps."

Entries will be accepted from tomorrow (December 1) to January 5, 2007. There will be a Champion, 1st Runner-up, 2nd Runner-up and 5 Merit Awardees chosen from each division with plenty of prizes.  Selective winning entries may be adopted in the design of Children Stamps to be issued in 2008.  Each entry will also receive a serviced First Day Cover as a token of  appreciation for participants' support.  In addition, the Most Supporting School Awards will go to three schools with the top three number of entries from each of the Primary School Division and Secondary School Division.  This is a recognition for their encouragement to their students to participate in this competition and learn about stamp-collecting.

Entry forms will be sent to all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.  They will also be available at all post offices from tomorrow.  Photocopied forms will also be accepted.  Forms can also be downloaded from the Hongkong Post Stamps website at www.hongkongpoststamps.com.  For any enquiries, please call the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau Hotline at 2785 5711.
