Department dedicated to promoting greening in infrastructure works

   The Highways Department was committed to incorporating greening works in infrastructural projects to help create a better environment, the Director of Highways, Mr Wai Chi-sing, said today (November 30).

    Mr Wai was speaking at the Deep Bay Link Community Planting Day ceremony. He was joined by the Chairman of Tuen Mun District Council and Tuen Mun Rural Committee, Mr Lau Wong-fat, Tuen Mun District Council members, Vice-Chairmen of Tuen Mun Rural Committee members, Hing Tak Primary SchoolĄ¯s Headmaster and Tuen Mun Government Primary SchoolĄ¯s Headmistress. More than 100 pupils and teachers from Hing Tak Primary School and Tuen Mun Government Primary School participated in the event.

    Deep Bay Link is a dual three-lane carriageway with a total length of about 5.4 km, connecting Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor near Ngau Hom Shek with Yuen Long Highway at Lam Tei.

    To protect and enhance the environment, the department has incorporated extensive planting works into the Deep Bay Link project.  About 50,000 trees and 500,000 shrubs will be planted.

    In organising the Community Planting Day, Mr Wai said the department hoped to raise public awareness of environmental protection through their participation in the greening of the environment.
