Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the fourth "Cantonese Opera Day" was held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) today (November 26). The carnival's opening attraction was the colorful parade with more than 140 performers.

Chairman of the Cantonese Opera Advisory Committee Dr Stephen Chow Chun-kay and Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Mr Thomas Chow officiated at the opening ceremony. After that, there were a wide variety of activities taken place in the foyer and piazza areas of HKCC until 5.30pm.

People attending the opera day enjoyed a varied programme including "floating colours" parade, dance performance, Cantonese opera performances, costumes try-out, autograph sessions, exhibition and games stalls.  One of the most entertaining programmes, the last session of the day was "Sing Along with the Stars of Cantonese Opera" which drew hundreds of Cantonese opera fans.

Many other events were being held in the territory in support of the Cantonese Opera Day 2006, including Cantonese opera performances, operatic songs concerts, film shows and exhibitions.

For the last three years, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has organised the event to critical acclaim with thousands of people participating in a variety of programmes.
