Prisoner attacks psychiatrist at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre

    A visiting psychiatrist from Castle Peak Hospital was wounded by a prisoner during a medical consultation in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre (SLPC) today (November 24).

     The incident happened about 3pm inside a consultation room when the male prisoner suddenly hit the psychiatrist on the head. Correctional Services Department officers outside the room  subdued the prisoner.

     The psychiatrist was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital at 3.30pm and was treated for forehead and shoulder injuries. The case was reported to the police.

     The 54-year-old prisoner, surnamed Tang, was convicted of manslaughter and in September, 2002, was ordered to be detained in SLPC for an unspecified period under the Mental Health Ordinance.
