The BMW Concessionaires (HK) Limited will sponsor 200 limousines for use by government ministers and VIPs from around the world attending the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006, in Hong Kong from December 4 to 8.
Speaking at the limousine handover ceremony today (November 24), the Deputy Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology (Communications and Technology), Mrs Marion Lai said that BMW had been very supportive of the HKSAR Government in hosting international events.
"Last year, BMW Concessionaries (HK) Ltd sponsored more than 200 limousines for the Sixth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization. After exactly one year, they made an offer again to sponsor another 200 limousines for ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006. This has fully demonstrated their unfailing support for Hong Kong to host major international events, and for making Hong Kong a world-class city.
"We are glad that BMW has offered to sponsor limousines with drivers for use by the ministers and VIPs during the event. These limousines will enable the ministers and VIPs to have pleasant and comfortable rides befitting their needs and status," she said.
ITU TELECOM WORLD is the most prominent global information and communications technology (ICT) event, comprising a mega-scale exhibition and a high-level forum.
The exhibition will offer an opportunity for ICT players to showcase their latest equipment, services or technologies, while the forum provides a platform for industry leaders, top policy officials and regulators to exchange views on critical issues of policy and regulation, key technologies as well as business applications and environment.
It is expected that the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006 will attract about 60,000 visitors to Hong Kong, generating a direct economic benefit of about $900 million to Hong Kong.
Also attending today's ceremony were the Managing Director of BMW Concessionaries (HK) Ltd, Mr Edmond Kwok; and the Head, Sales and Sponsorship of ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006, Ms Dominique Bourne.
