Five employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 22) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $130,000 on behalf of 18 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, defendant Cheung Hak Ping trading as Luen Hing Cleaning Service Company, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $7,371, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other four defendants - Max Creator Limited trading as Hang Hing Seafood Hot Pot Restaurant, Tai Fook Chuen trading as Ngai Feng Company, Graphimorph Company Limited and Ki Sing Enterprises Company Limited trading as Modern Luxury Furniture Design - did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $46,511.53, $41,488.14, $23,686.14 and $13,860, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $140, $430, $180, $146 and $116 as the costs in respect of the claims.
