One employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 20) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for $40,000 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

     The defendant, Asia Direct Products Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $40,000, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amount awarded at the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further awarded payment of $350 as costs in respect of the claim.
