World music with a HK flavour
*****************************

Hong Kong cross-cultural musician John Chen and the JohnChen Ensemble will perform the music theatre "Songs from Within" at the City Hall Theatre this Friday and Saturday (November 10 and 11), at 8pm.

Featuring the best exponents of local fusion music, the performances combine Western classical and Chinese traditional music, jazz, different ethnic rhythms and contemporary sounds in a dynamic demonstration of the boundless spirit of World Music.

It also breaks new ground with its specially designed set, video, computer-processed narration and live Chinese calligraphy.

The JohnChen Ensemble focuses on creating, performing and promoting original world music with a unique Hong Kong style. Members of the ensemble are from very different musical backgrounds, using musical ideas and instruments from the West and the East.

Guest performers for the cross-media performance include Xiao/Dizi/Calligraphy/Taichi artist Tam Po-shek, contemporary vocalist Priscilla Leung, percussionist Elton Lee and Harpsichord player David Chung.

"Songs from Within" is one of the programmes of the New Vision Arts Festival organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Tickets priced at $200 and $120 are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Group booking discounts are up to 20% off.
