International music showcased in "Around the World in Songs" concert

    The Youth Choir and the Children¡¯s Choir of the Music Office will perform in the ¡°Around the World in Songs¡± concert next Sunday (November 12) at 3pm at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. The concert is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

     The two choirs will use sweet and melodious international folk songs to take the audience on a trip around the world.

     Conductors for the concert are the instructors of Music Office Dr Angelina Au and Linde Lee, with piano accompaniments by Kwan Pui-pui and Mable Siew.

     The Children¡¯s Choir will perform an array of folk songs including the traditional Cantonese ¡°Moonlight¡±, ¡°Lark! O Lark¡± from Xingjiang, the poetic ¡°Sakura¡± from Japan, ¡°Arirang¡± from Korea, ¡°Rasa Sayag eh¡± from Malaysia, the passionate ¡°Tinikling¡± from Philippines, the popular ¡°Waltzing Matilda¡± from Australia, ¡°Siyahumba¡± from South Africa, ¡°Zum Gali Gali¡± from Israel, as well as two Russian songs ¡°The Lonely Ash Tree¡± and ¡°Rushing Troika¡±.

     The Youth Choir will also present many well-known folk songs like ¡°Mas Que Nada¡± from Brazil, ¡°Les Champs-elysˆmes¡± from France, ¡°La Bamba¡± which was once a mega-hit in Mexico, as well as folk songs from Germany, Italy, England, Newfoundland.

     Not to be missed is ¡°This is Our Home¡± from local renowned composer Joseph Koo, to be jointly presented by the two choirs.

     Tickets for the concert priced at $40 and $20 are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
