Tuen Mun Hospital update on fever cases

    Regarding an earlier announcement about three patients of a female ward for the mentally handicapped in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) presenting with fever and upper respiratory infection, who subsequently were found to be positive to parainfluenza, TMH announced the following updates today (October 31):

     There is one more patient (aged 34) in the ward presenting with fever and upper respiratory infection. She is now in a stable condition and is being treated in isolation. Tests are being carried out.  

     Admission to the ward has been suspended while discharges from the ward remains normal.  A restricted visiting policy has been imposed. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation. Infection control measures at the ward concerned have been stepped up. All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
