Local performing group Theatre Fanatico will present its latest drama "Exposed/ Still Burning" this November. Presented in Cantonese, it is a visually stunning theatrical poem that cut deep into the lives of a group of non-conformists, searching beyond the flooding voyeurs of security guards, simply hoping to lead a life of their own. The text of French Philosopher Georges Bataille's erotica "Story of the Eye" will be featured off a 'deranged' angle, unveiling the repressive human psyche often detected in Hong Kong since 1997. It depicts a confrontation of time over-exposed, a sketch of a mind under-exposed, a portraiture of 9-years-in-waiting, a Hong Kong story still burning¡
"Exposed/ Still Burning" is a creative 'diary' compiled by a group of exciting local artists, including modern composer Kung Chi Shing, renowned modern dancer & artistic director of DanceArt Francis Leung, former Hong Kong Dance Company principal dancer Popo Tso, veteran Theatre Fanatico actor Ng Wai-shek and young newcomers Lee King-cheong & Lam Yin. Japanese avant garde performer Mariko Ogawa would make a special guest appearance to play a fallen angel, monitoring the grotesque spirit of such homegrown Hongkongers. Veteran teacher Winnie Yu, a new immigrant of Australia, would provide an unusual backdrop for the poetic scenario.
Theatre Fanatico was founded in 1996 by Hoyingfung, who has also been the Company's artistic director till now. The works of the Company consist of four streams of creative endeavour: Fanatico Drama Series, Fanatico Young Professional Series, Fanatico Impromptu Series and Drumming Voices Youth Creative Workshop Series.
Fanatico Drama Series is the main body of creative works maintained by the Company throughout the years. All works evolved with concerns over the changing socio-political phenomena in Hong Kong. So far, most of them were original works created by Hoyingfung. The works are "Dreaming Plum Blossom Away" (an original opera inspired by Milan Kundera's "Immortality" and the Cantonese Opera Classic "The Reincarnation of Plum Blossom" by Tong De-sung), "Heading West" (a music theatre inspired by the Chinese Classical Novel "Journey to the West"), "The Seventh Drawer" (a portraiture of a Chinese family saga of the 20th Century), "Springtime at Wuhu Street"(a semi-docu-drama based on true stories told by performers).
"Exposed/ Still Burning" will be held at 7.30 pm from November 3 to 5, and 2.30 pm on November 4 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Studio Theatre.
The production contains nudity and scenes of adult nature.
Tickets priced at $120 and $200 are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Package booking discounts are up to 20% for full-price tickets.
"Exposed/ Still Burning" is one of the programmes of the "New Vision Arts Festival" presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
