In response to media enquiries about a report published by the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data on the leakage of personal data on the Internet, a Government spokesman said today (October 26) that the Administration respected the course of action taken by the Privacy Commissioner in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.

"We appreciate the Independent Police Complaints Council's (IPCC) effort in handling the incident and will continue to provide all necessary support to the IPCC and the IPCC Secretariat in taking forward the follow-up and remedial measures," the spokesman said.

"For example, we have assisted the IPCC Secretariat to review and update its internal security practices and guidelines for the purpose of complying with the Enforcement Notice issued by the Privacy Commissioner."

"We note that the Privacy Commissioner has accepted the measures formulated by the IPCC in response to the Enforcement Notice," he said.
