CIC detainee stopped in suicide attempt

    Staff of the Correctional Services early this morning stopped an attempted suicide by a detainee in Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre (CIC).

     The detainee was found hanging himself with his clothes in a hospital cell. He was immediately taken down and given first-aid by department staff. He was sent by ambulance to Tuen Mun Hospital at 6.30am for further treatment.

     Police have been informed of the incident while an investigation is being conducted by the Correctional Services Department.

     The 23-year-old illegal immigrant, surnamed Nguyen, was admitted to CIC on October 20, 2006. He was detained pending for repatriation to his place of origin.
