When strangers are strangers no more. When the familiar becomes unfamiliar. How do couples feel about love today?
These are issues DanceArt will explore when it presents dance theatre "Blind Dates" next month.
This is a comedy of the absurd filled with hyperbole and satire to expose love in its various forms. "Blind Dates" explores whether love in post-modern society is a trade-off.
The programme is choreographed by Andy Wong and directed by Francis Leung. Dancers include Liz Tsui, Yvette Huang, Wong Sze-ling, Carol Wong, May Au, Larry Cheng and Lai Tak-wai.
Andy Wong is the company's Resident Choreographer. In 1999, he received the Hong Kong Dance Alliance Dance Award for his efforts in dance education for special groups. His choreographic works include: Dream Dreams, Shadow Box, Lovers (commissioned by the Estonian Theatre), The Good Woman of Szechwan (commissioned by Hong Kong Arts Festival 98), Paper Balloon, A Beautiful Life Series and Smoke Factory.
Formed in 1993, DanceArt has been a one-year grant recipient of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council for six consecutive years since 2000. The company has toured Taiwan, Germany and the United States to participate in arts festivals, giving performances and workshops. In 2003, DanceArt received a Hong Kong Dance Alliance Dance Award with the production "A Beautiful Life Series", for addressing social issues through dance.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Blind Dates" will be staged at 8pm, November 24 and 25 (Friday and Saturday) and 3pm, November 26 (Sunday) at the Theatre, Sheung Wan Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $100 and $140, are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients (limited tickets for students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues. There will be a maximum of 20% off for a group booking.For details about other discounts schemes, please refer to the programme leaflet.
