Tuen Mun Hospital's influenza-like illness cases update
*******************************************************

Regarding an earlier announcement on eight patients and one staff member of a ward for the mentally handicapped in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) presented with fever and influenza like illness, TMH announced the following updates today (October 20):

There is one more male patient (aged 51) in the ward presenting with fever and influenza like illness.  He is now in stable condition and is being treated under isolation.  The tests results of Influenza A and B for the patient are negative.  Regarding the eight symptomatic patients reported earlier, the tests results of para-influenza for two of them are positive, and their symptoms have subsided.

Admission to the ward has been suspended while discharge from the ward remains normal.  Limited visiting policy is imposed. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation.  Infection control measures of the ward concerned have been stepped up.  All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
