Shaoxing Troupe performers to show their talent

    Three national class one performers from Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe of Shaoxing - Wu Fenghua, Wu Suying and Chen Fei - will perform at 7.30pm, the Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre in December.

     The programme includes "How a Dead Cat was Substituted for a New-born Prince" (December 5); "Three Glimpses of the Princess" (December 6) and "Lu Wenlong" (December 7). (Simplified surtitles in English will be provided)

     The three performers have won many awards. Wu Fenghua is trained by Fan Ruijian and specialises in playing the roles of xiaosheng (young civil male). She was a recipient of the 13th "Plum Blossom Award" for Chinese Theatre. Other accolades include the "Gold Artistic Award" in the 2nd Zhejiang Province Xiaobaihua Showcase. Trained by Lˆ¢ Ruiying, Wu Suying specialises in roles of huadan (young female). She received the "Best Performer Award" in the National Yue Opera Young Actors Television Contest, the "Gold Artistic Award" in the 2nd Zhejiang Province Xiaobaihua Showcase. Trained by Fu Quanxiang, Chen Fei specialises in roles of huadan (young female). She was a recipient of the 22nd "Plum Blossom Award" for Chinese Theatre.

     Since its founding in 1986, the Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe of Shaoxing has created and staged 20 full-length operas and 40 excerpts. Its productions have won the "Five 'One' Project" Award of Zhejiang and the "New Repertoire Award" at the 9th Theatre Festival.  The troupe has a well-balanced cast, complete with both civil and military roles. It gives frequent performances in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai regions, and has toured Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore to wide and popular acclaim.

     Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Gala is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $100, $200 and $280 are now available at URBTIX outlets, while senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients can have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues. There will also be group booking discounts: 10% for four to nine tickets, 15% for 10 to 19 tickets, 20% for 20 tickets or more.
