The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:
The Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) will jointly organise a drama competition to promote the Basic Law through vivid means so participants can "Learn the Basic Law, Know your Rights and Duties".
The drama competition is co-organised with the Constitutional Affairs Bureau, Department of Justice and the Education and Manpower Bureau; supported by Radio Television Hong Kong and assisted by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre as the technical consultant.
The preliminary round and the final of the competition will be held in January and February 2007. With the event launched, there follows a series of exhibitions of historic moments leading to the conclusion of the Basic Law. Workshops chaired by the Event Ambassador, Miss Louisa So, and Hong Kong Repertory Theatre will be held to illustrate how drama can be utilised to promote public awareness of the Basic Law.
The launch ceremony of the Basic Law Drama Competition will be held tomorrow (October 21) at the World Trade Centre in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
The CPCE Chairman, Dr Pang King-chee, together with representatives from HAB, Constitutional Affairs Bureau, Department of Justice and the Education and Manpower Bureau as well as Event Ambassador Louisa So will officiate at the ceremony.
Application forms for the competition and the workshops will be distributed at the launching ceremony. They are also available at the Civic Education Resource Centre, 2/F, Tung Sun Commercial Centre, 200 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai or to be downloaded from the event website (www.basiclawdrama.hk). Application forms and publicity posters will be sent to schools separately.
