Tuen Mun Hospital's influenza-like illness cases update

    Regarding an earlier announcement on six patients and one staff member of a ward for the mentally handicapped in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) who presented with fever and influenza like illness, TMH announced the following updates today (October 19):

     There are two more female patients (aged 25 and 50) in the ward presenting with fever and influenza like illness.  They are now in stable condition and are being treated under isolation.  Appropriate tests are being carried out.  Regarding the six symptomatic patients earlier, the tests results of Influenza A and B for five of them are negative.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended while discharge from the ward remains normal.  Limited visiting policy is imposed. Patients¡¯ relatives have been informed about the situation.  Infection control measures of the ward concerned have been stepped up.  All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
