***************************************

The Hospital Authority issued the following announcement today (October 19) to wrap up the offer of compensation package to public hospital doctors:

On August 19, 2006, the Hospital Authority sent a personalised letter to 4,322 doctors currently working in public hospitals requesting them to accept a settlement offer with regard to the High Court ruling on their claims for work hours and rest days. Eligible doctors were given two months to consider the offer and were required to confirm their acceptance.  The deadline for response to the offer was at midnight yesterday (October 18).

In conclusion, the response to the compensation offer showed that 3,676 (85%) of eligible doctors indicated their acceptance of the offer, while 36 (0.8%) rejected it.

A report on the response to the compensation offer will be tabled for discussion at the Hospital Authority Board meeting next week to decide on implementation of the package.
