Regarding an earlier announcement on four patients and one staff member of a ward for the mentally handicapped in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) who had presented with fever and influenza like illness, TMH announced the following updates today (October 17):

There is one more female patient (aged 29) in the ward presenting with fever and influenza like illness. She is now in stable condition and is being treated under isolation. Appropriate tests are being carried out. The four symptomatic patients are now afebrile, and their tests for Influenza A and B are negative.

Admission to the ward has been suspended while discharge from the ward remains normal. Limited visiting policy is imposed. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation. Infection control measures of the ward concerned have been stepped up. All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
