Beware of Improper fire safety advice
*************************************

The Fire Services Department today (October 17) warned people to be aware of salesmen of fire service equipment, particularly portable fire extinguishers, who may give improper fire safety advice.

A Fire Services Department spokesman said it had come to the notice of the department that people claiming to represent certain "associations" or "centres" dedicated to fire safety had been touting their wares after talks purportedly on fire safety.

"What we are concerned with is whether the information conveyed is accurate. In fact, proper fire safety advice can be obtained from the department free of charge, "he said.

District Fire Safety Carnivals are regularly held jointly with District Fire Safety Committees to ram home the message of fire safety.

In addition to various fire safety publicity drives, open days at fire stations are another avenue by which the public can obtain information on fire safety, he said.

Any organisation, firm or school that seeks fire safety talks and knowledge is welcome to call the department's Community Relations Division on 2117 6560 for assistance.
