Tuen Mun Hospital fever cases

    Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) spokesperson announced today (October 13) that since October 6, 2006, a total of three patients (aged 25 to 49; one male and two female) and one staff member of a ward for the mentally handicapped presented with fever and influenza like illness. All of them are now in stable condition. The patients are being treated under isolation. The staff member is now on sick leave. Influenza A and B tests are negative for two patients while the results for the other one is still pending.

     Admission to the ward has been suspended while discharge from the ward remains normal. Limited visiting policy is imposed. Patients' relatives have been informed about the situation. Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been stepped up. All other patients and the staff in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
