Lotteries Fund allocates more than $56 million to welfare programmes

    The Lotteries Fund allocated $56,973,850 to finance various social welfare service programmes from July to September this year, a Social Welfare Department spokesman said today (October 13).

     Of the total, $32,617,700 went to rehabilitation services, $9,325,250 went to family and child welfare, $7,661,800 to social welfare support services, $5,762,700 went to elderly and medical social services and $1,606,400 to services for offenders.

     The fund was established to finance, by way of grants, loans or advances, the operation or development of social welfare services and medical or educational projects with a welfare content, the spokesman said.
