The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in September showed a marginal decrease of 0.1% (176 cases) over August, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (October 12).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of September stood at 296,655, with a total of 523,654 welfare recipients.
Analysed by case nature, the number of unemployment cases decreased 0.3% to 39 041 cases.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.7% in September to 38,960.
An insignificant month-to-month increase of 0.02% was registered in low earnings cases in September 2006. Caseload for the month was 18 473.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was $17.6 billion for 2004-05.
